PM AKM by Hoborginc PM AKM by Hoborginc
This is a papercraft AKM model I originally made for /po/. It's rather large (1:1 scale), and can take a while to build because a lot of the parts have walls on the inside, for sturdiness. The safety and bolt are moveable. If you want, there's space to put a spring to push the bolt forward, though the strength of the spring vs. the strength of the parts would be your concern.

As of November 2013, the V2 iteration of this model is now available, offering a greater level of detail.

Yep, I have an AK-74 planned for the second half of this year. It won't be exactly like that, but the mags will definitely be bakelite. I'm thinking of orange, green, or black furniture options.

Well, it wouldn't be worthwhile to go back and build it again just to photograph the process. But if you're stuck at anything specific, I can answer questions.

Which part is giving you trouble? If it's the magazine, here's an illustration.

Also take a look at the V2 photos, included in the V2 package but also viewable among my scraps folder. It's different structurally, and more complex, but the fundamental placement of the parts has some similarities and might give you some ideas. The grip, for example, is pretty much the same, just fits together better. (In fact, you can use the V2 grip and it'll be the same). The stock also has the same fundamental structure (although its method of attachment is slightly different).

i think that i finally got the hang of it , i made some Modifications on the grip and handguard to make it more resistant to the excessive touch , adding some plastic cover and putting a huge amount of silicone glue inside , making it heavier and stronger . i intent to follow your design and recomendations while doing the rest of it

Hello Hoborging, i'm your fan. Will you do more models? I love the Winchester 44 cause it's an old gun. If you want can you do that for us? Please and Ty :D (I live in Brazil, and i'm a old guns enthusiastic) Have a nice day.

I'm always making more, about one or two per year, following a long-term schedule. At the moment, however, I don't have any lever-action guns planned.

If you're really interested in a Winchester, there's always this model that I found, but I'm afraid it's not very good, and I have my doubts about how buildable it actually is.

Hello Hoborginc
I'm one of the papercraft makers who lives in South Korea
The reason I'm leaving this comment is that I almost finished to make this 'AK-47' paper model but stuck in the 'magazine' parts
As you know you put  photos of construction of how to build it and sometime put little hand-drawing pictures on the paper part image
But
the 'magazine' part doesn't have any pictures or phosts about how those parts are fit together.
So Is it possible for you to make simple hand-drawing about how to make magazine parts? :-D
I'm desiring to finish to make this AKM model so much
please understand how it would feel that i'm almost finished but stuck in the small parts....  :-(
if AKM get finished. I will move to make the AR15 V3 model :-D
thank you have a good day..

here is my e-mail address : dlawjdtjr93@naver.com

I already completed it, looks awesome! When my dad saw it, he actually thought it was a real gun, he had to touch it to realize it was made out cardboard. The gun does feels really sturdy, except for the barrel, in my gun feels kind of wobbly... maybe I assembled it wrong: I made every piece on its own first and then glued all together. Any tips on how to make it stronger? I don't know if you had similar issues, but if you did, are you planning to make it stronger in your AKM V2?

Thanks!

Yes, the barrel will be wobbly simply because of the design. It's only attached to the front plates of the handguard.
My plan is to make a barrel that goes through the handguard instead of simply being stuck on the front.

hey i am sorry but can u give us some pics of the mag

and yes what is the"front ridge rear face and where to stick it"

whereas where to stick the curved parts with those boxes on pg1 of magazine

:iconhoborginc:
Hoborginc Featured By Owner Mar 15, 2013
Here are the instructions for the mag.

You can see that its basic structure consists of two curved boxes: a large one (main section) and a small one (front ridge). Each box is fully closed (6 sides). Thus, the "main section" front, bottom, top, and rear faces on Pg.2 of the magazine correspond to the large curved parts on Pg.1. Accordingly, the "front ridge" front face and rear face (which also contains the top and bottom) on Pg.2 correspond to the smaller curved parts on Pg.1.

The "front ridge" is the smaller curved box, and it's not open on any side. Thus, its "rear face" is just the back curved side. It's not visible on the final product, because this is the part that is glued directly to the main section of the magazine.

hay great fan of your work but I'm having a problem. after downloading the file for the AK47 there is a notification that come's up saying something on the lines of "this file is not supported with the software you are using" and that leaves me to wonder.... what software do I need to use to open the file or what software do you use? Many thanks.

It's a RAR archive. Use winRAR or 7zip (both freely available on the internet) to extract it.

Inside, you will find .jpeg's (construction photographs), .png's (the printouts), and a .txt (notes). There's also a subfolder for the colorless version.

can the mag be taken out?
Reply
:iconhoborginc:

Yep.
Of course, you have the option of gluing it in place if you find it too wobbly, but there are little hooks on the mag that interface with the receiver to hold it in place without glue. The mag release functions as it should, albeit it's not spring-loaded.

the gun itself is alright to put together the small parts always frustrate me Lol, I put foam into some of them to make them more sturdy and yet the gun maid body came out crooked. Yet this is a gun for a fallout Cosplay so crooked is good hahaa. and i can make parts fit with my glue gun. I would like it when i am done if you can take a look at it and see how I did. see if it looks trashy enough xD. and thanks for uploading magazine instructions, man that was a bitch to put together. This is diffidently a level 7 out of 9 on the papercraft scale of construction.

Think of it this way: the "front ridge" is an enclosed box, meaning it has 6 sides. The "front ridge rear face" forms three of those sides: the long, curved back side, and the top and bottom sides.

You don't see the "front ridge rear face" on the final product because it's the part that's glued directly to the main body of the mag.

If you have the main section assembled, and the front ridge assembled, putting them together becomes very simple. As long as the little horizontal lines drawn on them line up, you're doing it right.
Also, look at the shape of the bottom face. The narrow part at the front goes over the front ridge, so it has to be centered accordingly.
