Deviation Actions
The background project for now will be a fourth iteration of the AR-15.
The goals of this model will be as follows:
1. Improve the level of detail.
2. Make the measurements and proportions more correct (although some changes, like the large pivot pin, will remain).
3. Strengthen the structure and solve failure points like the barrel well.
Making a large package with everything would take forever (because there wouldn't be a definite end point), so what I'll probably do is make one version of each part, release that as a basic model, and then make accessory packs for the sake of variety.
The first part of the model is obviously the lower receiver. The basic shape has been changed slightly to be more faithful to the real thing. The magwell walls are thinner, the bottom doesn't extend down as far, and the rear ring, besides having an interior, extends down the sides of the lower. Additionally, there are some open spaces for the attachment of little parts. Although I'm not putting in springs for every little thing, I want to have some range of motion. So there is a moving hammer, trigger, auto sear, and bolt catch. Also the magwell is realistically shaped, with a mag catch on the side instead of a retention bar. I haven't gotten all of the parts to move "functionally," and they probably won't, but the idea is to show that they're present.
Of course, building it will be more difficult, but the inclusion of instruction images should minimize the need for guesswork.
The lower, of course, was the easy part. The real difficulty will be figuring out how to make the upper. In the V3 I simplified it by shrinking down the bolt carrier, making the inside walls straight, and making the bottom mostly enclosed. Opening up the bottom and putting in curved walls opens up a whole host of technical challenges. This will be interesting.
M203 Update
Part of the M16 project is the M203 grenade launcher, specifically the version that attaches directly to the barrel. After this, I'll have to make the distinctive handguard for it, and maybe some sights.
here's a mediafire link.
(UPDATE 5/22/20: I've added the Work-in-Progress handguard & sights too, for anyone curious.)
This turned out a bit more elaborate than originally expected. Above the barrel there is a guide and a track, with a latch mechanism to keep it closed until pushed, and a rotating forward stop to stop its forward movement while allowing assembly/disassembly. I also ended up making a lot of small changes to the parts duri
M1911 Build and Instructions
Although I made some patterns for a WWI-era version of the M1911 model earlier this year, I've recently gone back and made a test build of it, in order to make a set of instruction images and fix some issues with the fit and finish. The result is a new PDF/PNG/Instruction package, which I've updated the original M1911 page with. I'm pretty happy about bringing this old model up to current quality levels.
Yes, it's a bit of a detour from the M16 project, but it should have been done a while ago, so I'm just catching up now.
August '19 Workflow Update
Well, here's the M16 scope. It turned out much simpler than I expected. Now all that's left is the M203 and then the M16 will be ready to publish as a package.
In the meantime, here are some other random parts.
M16 Scope
Mag V4A1 5.56 20rd
Mk17 SCAR-H Lower & Grip
Mag 7,62x51
M16A1 Workflow (AR V4 - Early June '19)
Well, here are all the parts for the clean-configuration M16A1. Next up, I'll have to do the accessories and optional components, as shown in the progress chart. Once that's done, I'll package everything together, but for now, the individual parts are available below.
Since the st.ash links weren't working, I've reuploaded all of them to mediafire.
Lower Parts (Lower V4 M16A1, Grip V4A1, Stock M16A1 (V4), and Mag V4A1 30)
Upper Parts (Upper V4 M16A1, Barrel V4 20 Pencil, Handguard M16A1, and Sight Triangular Pencil)
